LASG FLAGS-OFF CONSTRUCTION OF 1.3 KILOMETRE ROAD IN IJEDE

… Assures Community of More Grassroots-Based Projects

In a bid to continue to bring infrastructural development to the grassroots and to fulfil Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s mandate of Making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy, Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of a 1.3-kilometre road in Ayubu-Bashorun Street, Ilupeju Community area of  Ijede LCDA, Ikorodu.

The project which is intended to improve road networks in the community and to help reduce travel time for vehicles and humans, was flagged off by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje on Tuesday at the project site.

While giving his speech at the flag-off ceremony, the Special Adviser disclosed that the road construction is one of the numerous projects that Mr Governor has earmarked for rural communities in fulfilment of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of his administration. He reiterated that the construction of roads in these communities is a strategic effort by the State Government to engender ease of movement and to reduce rural-urban migration.

Nurudeen harped on the need for members of the Community to ensure they collaborate with the contractor in ensuring the safety of the workers. He also urged them to take ownership of the project upon completion by protecting and safeguarding the project.

Emphasising that the road project is scheduled to be completed in 12 months and the contractor has been mobilised to commence work immediately, the Special Adviser urged members of the community to support and cooperate with the contractor to ensure a seamless infrastructure construction that would benefit all in the community.

He also appealed to the contractor, Messrs. SVV International Investments Limited to adhere strictly to the delivery timeline and quality of work as stipulated in the contract.

Similarly, a member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Abiodun Moshood applauded the Governor for his commitment to ensuring development reaches the grassroots, especially rural communities like Ikorodu, which would bring Lagos State closer to its dream of creating a Greater Lagos through strategic rural infrastructure.

He also thanked the Special Adviser for inspecting and recommending rural communities that are in dire need of critical infrastructure, which has resulted in the flag-off of the Ayubu-Bashorun Road in Ijede.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa thanked Mr Governor, for bringing development to Ijede LCDA through the construction of Ayubu-Bashorun road, adding that the strategic community-based road constructions embarked upon by the Ministry would ensure that the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of the present administration is felt in the length and breadth of Lagos, especially in rural communities.

The Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Honourable Motunrayo Alogba, who was represented by the Supervisor for Works in the Council, Hon. Ajayi Abiodun thanked Mr. Governor for the development, assuring that the project would be meticulously guarded. She added that the people of Ijede believe that this is the beginning of many developmental projects that Ijede would enjoy.

Baale Oko-Ope in Ilupeju Community, Chief Sikiru Abiola Saulabiu and CDA Chairman, Alhaja Hon. Kehinde Fesomu also lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for considering Ilupeju community in the development agenda of the State. They assured that the community would work collaboratively with the Governor to ensure that the safety and security of the lives and properties of the contractor is guaranteed.
